JOB SUMMARY

Accountable for supporting the administration functions, performance monitoring, database configurations and upgrades, capacity planning for all the zVM systems used to support Production, Test and Development mainframe systems as well as the zLinux systems. This includes operating systems support, system upgrades including release level upgrades and system level third party software support to include maintenance and release upgrades.

Responsible and accountable for the integrity of the MARSHA development environments, creating and maintaining internally developed programs which support the test systems and program promotion process, support of IBM programs and services for zVM, support and maintenance of the zLinux environment. Support of operations documents accessible via a web site platform. Enforce and maintain document standards. Conduct performance analysis for operations support and strategically planning. 24x7 on-call support by all team members for MARSHA production, test and development systems. In addition to these core responsibilities, provide technical expertise and consultation for both IT Run and IT Build management as well as to senior Business sponsors in the design & review of Business/IT plans for effective deployment of existing technology assets.

Supports existing technologies/systems as an advisor to a project or within a team. Supports technical architects in performing research, analysis, and design of technical solutions to meet current and future user requirements. Responsible for software product installation, maintenance, and performance tuning. Supports the capacity planning analysis and reporting on computing systems for procurement planning and performance monitoring.

Accountable for supporting the administration functions, performance monitoring, database configurations and upgrades, capacity planning for all the VM systems used to support TPF test and development systems as well as the z/Linux, MongoDB and NoSQL systems hosted by the mainframe teams at Marriott International. This includes operating systems support, system upgrades including release level upgrades and system level third party software support to include maintenance and release upgrades. On-call responsibilities are included in associate’s assignment.

Monitors multiple projects by Service Provider to successful completion, maintaining scope within the time and budget constraints.

CANDIDATE PROVILE

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification

  • 10 + years experience of maintaining and supporting zVM mainframe infrastructure

  • 5 + years experience of maintaining and supporting zLinux mainframe infrastructure

  • Excellent understanding of change management and testing requirements, techniques, and tools.

  • Ability to create constructive relationships, influence, and communicate

  • Ability to lead complex, cross-functional problem-solving initiatives.

  • Experience in researching emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products.

Preferred:

  • Graduate degree

  • Technical certifications

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Provides leadership, oversight, governance and strategic direction related to zVM and zLinux Mainframe Services. Provides input to the overall architecture governance model. Provides technical leadership, oversight, standardization and validation of the effectiveness of the zVM and zLinux infrastructure mainframe servers. Educates internal and external users about mainframe technologies to continually improve the knowledge and skill-base of the organization on how best to operate and support the infrastructure services. Provides documents with a focus on how services will be leveraged in the solution architecture.

Works closely with all enterprise architects to facilitate alignment of plans with what is being delivered. Institutes governance based on best practices and ensure proper alignment to projects and major initiatives. Leads analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine the potential impact on the mainframe architecture. Consults with project teams to identify when it is necessary to modify services to accommodate project needs. Consults with architecture teams to identify when it is necessary to modify the technical architecture to accommodate infrastructure needs.

Oversees the documentation of all architecture design and analysis work. Develops and delivers long-term strategic goals for technology architecture vision and standards in conjunction with Service Providers, data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders. Creates short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall technology management roadmap. Conducts technology life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks. Develops and promotes technology management methodologies and standards. Defines requirements for Service Providers for establishing methods and procedures for tracking technology quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement in collaboration with the Service Providers. Defines requirements for Service Providers to address technology-related problems in regards to systems integration, compatibility, and multiple-platform integration. Defines requirements for Service Providers to develop and implement key components as needed to create testing criteria in order to guarantee the fidelity and performance of technology architecture. Defines requirements for Service Providers for documenting the technology architecture and environment in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger technology picture. Collaborates with Project Managers and business unit leaders for all projects involving mainframe systems. Coordinate, schedule and facilitate training session with various groups on various topics relating to system resource usage and control when developing system programs. Provide input, design, development and implementation strategies and initiatives for the future maintenance of world class zVM and zLinux Systems to maintain Marriott International’s competitive advantage.

Provide second level round the clock support, as required, of the Production zVM and zLinux Systems and help provide follow-up to closure of all operational issues impacting Service Delivery. Participate in design reviews of applications projects in order to ensure a supportable product is delivered. Contribute to the effort to improve operational processes and procedures to maintain and improve service levels. Conduct training sessions with a focus on system resource configuration and utilization. Provision of timely resolution to issues the department is responsible for and report out on findings and corrective actions to management.

Leads analysis, design and preparation of new technologies and modifies/maintains existing infrastructure in order to meet current and future business needs. Trains, mentors, transfers knowledge across organization as appropriate to ensure a well-trained and effective staff.
